Oh yeah that shifter adapter I had on my 89.. you have to modify the Trans to make it fit.. basically cut out a section where the lower portion will interfere. I believe LGaff got my modded shifter from my 89.. I had it until the Hurst was avail and then I got the Hurst for my 89. I got the Hurst for my 90 as soon as I knew I was buying the 90.. LOL

One of the first mods I did on my '93 (in about 1994-5) was to add a Hurst shifter. Next to the 4.10s it was the best thing I did for drivability. With the stock shift knob it looks stock to anyone who doesn't drive it. Did both 4.10s and a Hurst on my 95 when I got it in 2012. Bill's ZFDoc shifter is as good or better then the Hurst so I am told. Both a huge improvements over the stock one. --Bob

Jerry completely agree I drove my Dads 96CE LT4 it wasn't Bills Transmission or Shifter and it Growled, Whined and was like shifting a rock hauler.

He hasn't looked back since he sold her to buy his CTS-V

When I bought my car it already had the Bill B transmission in it Beam Plates and the Short Throw. (One of the many reasons I bought her) To see and feel that was what the stock setup was like was a real disappointment

Though my research on the ZF S6-40 and all the work I did with Red Line Oil, has me wanting to remind everyone that, in the case of the S6-40, making quick shifts is more than just a short throw shifter.

In fact, with just the shifter, anytime you shorten the throw, you increase the effort. There is no way to avoid this directly as shifters, as good as some of them might be, cannot violate the laws of physics.

There are other issues which affect shift effort.

1) Clutch action and clutch type
2) Trans lube and its temperature
3) Trans condition
4) Friction in the shifter

If you don't have all those things right, you can install a short throw shifter and still end up with high shift effort. Many people don't understand that, as shift effort goes up, if you don't have the right shifter and the trans and clutch right, you can get to a point where shift speed is actually compromised by high shift effort, in spite of having a short throw shifter.

When I owned Barney, my Purple 95, I had a McLeod clutch and disc, I had well-maintained clutch hydraulics, my trans was in good condition and I used Red Line Light Shockproof Lubricant. When I bolted a Hurst shifter (originally designed by Zroner, Chris Reinhart and probably the best shifter on the market because of its low level of friction) on my ZF, I ended up with a system that allowed very quick shifts.

The stock ZF shifter just always felt as if I was rowing thru butter. I would think shift effort has some dependency on arm strength as well. To me the Hurst has always produced a very positive, definitive gear change. It doesn't leave anything to your imagination. My son owns a 350ZX, and he always comments on how positive the gear change feels in my ZR.
N.B. I am using a Fidanza FW w Camaro LT1 sprung hub disc and stock PP.
I check and change my clutch fluid 2-3 times/yr depending but particularly if there is some type of competitive driving taking place. After using BMW Castrol
for many years, I just switched over to Amsoil Manual Trans gear oil. I really have not noticed any difference.

Driving Ami's car w/ the short Hurst and then diving mine...make my stock shifter feel like one of those "bucket-T" roadsters with a 3' long shifter! Talk about "rowing the gears!" Sheesh!

Daryl, (sp?)

There is a YouTube video of mine with an Aluminum FW and a sprung hub. 508 hp LT5, IIRC will get you to the YouTube video.

Mine has stock cams and is nearly quiet. Ami's has the Al flywheel & Pete's cams ... and it rattles...A LOT(in neutral/clutch not engaged).

I've heard both with and without the sprung hub, and the sprung hub does seem to be quieter...unless the LT5 has "cams" OR an injector or two that are bad.
