Can you tell me more about the column replacement? What did you use, and does it cure that annoying down-left movement of the whole column? That's my single biggest gripe on my car, can't believe any car ever left a factory with a column that isn't rock solid.

I used the 1990 outer housing that bolts in the car, I used the 87 shaft and pivot assembly. the 1990 outer plastic housing and turn signal/wipers/cruise. All of the upper internals are all 87 due to the telescoping portion of the column.

since I knew the 90 plastic housing was shorter than that of the 87, I had to cut a ring off the 87 housing which fits nicely in the 90 to give a stepped housing look. on my old 89 I glued it.. I did not on this one.

I had originally thought I would use the OEM steering wheel but decided on a Momo Trek R 350mm wheel. to mount it I used the Momo 2702 adapter. I had to mod the ground wire for the horn and I have a bolt in one of the puller threaded holes for a ground.

I think my column I got was slightly worn, but it is tighter. I will tell you this.. It is my understanding that the heavy airbag caused some of those column problems in the 90 up cars.

The pieces used for tilt from 89 to the 90- later are then same essentially, the electronics and outer pieces changed, as did the upper shaft.. the lower break away shaft is the same

So you replaced the whole column? I didn't know GM offered a telescoping and tilt column. Was this an option in the Vette at all. That would be awesome for me.

My 84 had T/T column. Loved that.

yes.. C3 had one and C4 84-89 have them

I swapped the whole column.. assembled it on the bench prior to install..

I really like having the telescopic feature again..

Dont get too excited about the telescoping column.
It goes from too close to right up against your chest.

-=JEFF=- is this an 89 column? Any side shots of the column? Does VATS still work or is that disabled along with the Airbag? Looks like a hell of a lot of time consuming work but it sounds like you are really happy with it.

One reason I like the mule cars is the Atari style dash remains with the LT5 power, I wonder if they had the older column as well?

Well done I know you have been wanting to do this for a while

That's because the PO used it to grab on like an ape to get in and out of the car. To enter and exit the C4 you never need to touch the steering wheel.

Sounds like you need to replace the pivot pin That Mark Haibeck sells. It oversized and corrects this problem

Yours should travel up and down centered. That would annoy me too.
