I had the same problem. Spliced a wire to the purple wire running to the starter solenoid so I could bypass a bad clutch switch. Discovered that the problem was in the solenoid coils. They get hot and short out. When it cools down it starts as normal. You will need a new starter. Good luck with that my friend. Ecklers, Mid-america and several othe Vette outfits have them on back order. Not fun to change out either as you need to pumm the intake plenum and remove the coil packs that sit on top of the starter.
