In 1990, General Motors approached Mercury Marine to produce the all-aluminum, 5.7-liter LT-5 engine for the Chevrolet ZR-1 Corvette.

...
'90?

I thought that conversation started in '85?

The listed weight is tremendously high- maybe that includes the outdrive unit, but i think the engine itself is around 900 lbs last time i tried to figure it out. It's not gonna be in a car anytime soon. Also they are north of $150k ea. $400k for a twin engine drive system- The boat would be the cheapest part.

Of course the unasked question is..."Would it fit in a ZR-1??"

I think the question needs an answer... (I just said out loud what everyone is thinking!)
