I have Akebonos on my wife's Mercedes and the M3 I recently sold, very happy with them. Not as much initial bite but excellent stopping power and zero dust. Made the wheels easy to keep clean. Here in the south, they are a great choice for year round, but might not be the best in colder winters.
No idea what's currently on the ZR-1 but I'm going to find out soon enough, and I'm happy for the suggestions. I definitely want something a little more aggressive. |

Much better now with HPS Pads, amazing I still had meat left on old pads after too numerous to mention 160/170/180 MPH stops, 30+k miles, but they were cracking

With the first set, I tracked it once and autocrossed it a bunch. The second set went on around 30k or so. I haven't been driving it much the last few years, kids are getting older and my time is spent elsewhere. The dust doesn't bother me because typically after it is driven, it is washed, covered and put back in the garage. ![]()

I know this threads a couple years old, cudos to the search function, but has anyone tried Hawks newer High Performance Street 5.0 or new for 2015 Street/Race pads? Both seem to perform as well if not better than the HPS's with less noise/dust, at least from Hawks description. I'm just looking to freshen up my stock brakes while I do a few other things to my 94. Got a set of Baer Decellerators on the way as well. Thanks for your input!

Hawk HPS pads and drilled and a little rotors made a big difference on my car.
On my old Porsche PBR Metal Masters were good pads |

I added Hawk HPS's to my car along with braided steel lines just before the Corvette Caravan last august and I am pleasantly surprised and happy with the results. Prior to the upgrade I was less than thrilled with the lack of stopping power out of my stock system. I have not yet installed a brake bias things to give the rear brakes some more load but it is in the near future.

I'm using the Hawk HPS ceramic padlets on my C6Z06 F/R brakes. Cut down on the dust.

From what I've read on various forums, although the HPS's are very well liked and perform great, they are "old news" and the Performance Street 5.0's are their latest and greatest. All the performance of the HPS's but with less dust and longer pad life. Was hoping someone out there had tried these before I bite.

HSPs here.
The HSPs dust more than the stock pads, but except for an all day drive e.g., on MR2, it's no big deal what they produce. Dust? Yeah, some - more than the stock ones, but dayam well worth the performance. The 5.0s have a way to go to prove out. Let us know how they work out!! |
