You didn't mention your variance *F since the dash is *F!

Digital once fully warmed reads 170 to 175 F in cold weather (my coolant temp would be 190 to 200 F). Analog gauge the needle moves barely off resting.

Digitally it seems fine I'd say - have others check! Where do you recall it customarily being before you noticed this discrepancy?

Oh is your coolant temp gauge 260 or 280?

GC - what is your dash gauge for water temp 260 or 280? Figured I might as well ask since you're a '91 kind a guy!!

Yun,
According to the FSM the oil temp sensor has two resistor elements, one drives the anolog gauge directly and the other provides the oil temp signal to the ECM which in turn out puts the oil temp value via serial data to the CCM module which then drives instrument cluster digital display when oil temp is selected.

Phil,

I had an opportunity to check a '90MY FSM and it is indeed displayed as a dual resistor output sensor with one of course to the gauge pack and the other to the ECM just like you mention. A single side of it then could of course fail, the more difficult I believe of the three at the oil filter adapter/pressure regulator to replace.

Why not maybe use a different source and separate sensor to regulate the cluster? Where? No idea!

Very good info Phil, thank you!

Re: the hardest Oil Sensor or Switch to get to is the Oil Pressure Switch.

Yun, if a new sender doesnt fix it, then maybe the stepper motor has died on the analog gauge, or maybe there is an open in the circuit.

Thanks for the explanation Phil. One switch - two signals.
Also thanks for the picture so I know where to find it Cliff.
I guess I can replace the sending unit at the next ol change and see if that solves the issue. Not that I need the analog gauge but just an idea of malfunction bugs me.

Thanks all.

Yun,
I have the same problem. Analog Oil temp gauge hardly moves at all while digital moves up like it should. If you get a new unit and they are not much $'s get 2 and I will pay next time we get together.
