Acquired an 88 Corvette Challenge Car Today

Just spoke to Stu Hayner via facebook. He said that the car was very good. It led 95% of the laps at Dallas GP, the first Corvette Challenge race ever. Politics forced the sale of the car after the third race. He did go on to win the 88 Championship in a re-numbered #98 car.

So, what's the story behind these Corvette Challenge cars? Were they factory racers like in the 60's?

Challaenge Cars is a class where all cars are from a manufacturer.
Like Neon Challenge, Honda Challenge, Toyota Challenge or Corvette Challenge.

Went to Detroit last Thursday to work on a couple of 53's and also to remove incorrect decals and apply the new ones that I had made.

Here's what it looks like now with the correct livery applied.

Nothing like a GM Factory Race car. 1 of 56 made in 88. It currently has only part of the decals applied. I will be ordering the remainder of decals and applying them. Comes with the #s matching engine and the factory sealed engine (installed).

Attached are pics of the car now and the last two pictures show what the car will look like after the rest of the "correct" decals are applied.

I came very close to buying '88 car number 99 Johnny Rutherford. It was stuffed in a barn in East Texas. Included the drivers log and all the normal race prep stuff still in tact. Drove it around a bit then learned it was seriously damaged then pieced together with many cars to put it on the road again.

Needless to say I passed. Would have been a cool car.
