Does that mean Bugatti W16 motor would have 8 cams? - 2 cams per head and 4 heads?
Should we call this OCQH - Octa Cam Quad Heads? Last edited by secondchance; 12-22-2012 at 05:55 PM. |

My car has cams and is a blast to drive. I just want mine to be a litle more exclusive, I guess??? Not really sure why I want to do it. Not a cheap whim. My motor was just a temporary thing, in my mind. The bottom end has more miles than the car. I want to use my #'s matching block, so I figure "what the hell", might as well collect parts and build a 427. I like the sound of it. Pete's doing the work (his talent). I just get to pay for it....... ![]()

Chevrolet also did a chain driven SOHC 427 BBC test engine back in 1964/65 that ran 12.5:1 compression and it made 660hp at 6800rpm and 532lb/ft torque at 4000rpm.
They also did a pushrod 427 with hemispherical heads that ran an 11.3:1 cr and made 628hp at 6400rpm and 552 lb/ft torque at 4400rpm. These engine were strictly testbeds to see what output was possible from 427 cubes. From this period the L-88 and ZL-1 engine were born. L-88 12.5:1CR Chevrolet rated it at 430hp at 5200rpm, and dynoed at 560hp at 6400rpm(the engines power peak). This was confirmed later with testing, with tube headers, 115 H&H race fuel L-88 no. 21550 made 437hp at 5200rpm and 560hp at 6200rpm. The owner did not want to take the engine to its red line. For 1968 Chevrolet issued seperate AMA specs(dated October 15, 1967) for the L-88 Corvette. Chev rated it at 430hp at 4600rpm/485 lb/ft at 4000rpm with a 12.5:1 CR. A 1967 L-88 427 Vette with 11:1 CR instead of 12.5:1 and stronger rods hit 186 mph in the 1970 24hrs at Daytona. The 427 has and will always have a special place in the hearts of all Chevrolet enthusiasts. GM built the 427 until 1998 in the medium duty trucks with its tall deck block and extra piston ring, then picked it up again in a much more exciting package, the LS7 in the C6 ZO6. That 701 hp 427 with the custom cams/headers is sweet. Did it ever get into a car? peace Hog |
