Stock shifter is fine, just wanted to make the Z mine. That is the problem when you live in WAZOO land, get to see and drive many other Z's and the mind starts to get ideas. It is only money.................

Kevin,

I still use my stock shifter and have no issue with it.

Charlie,

I hear you! And you are right - I have not tried other WAZOO car w/ short throw shifter yet.

Yun

Please try mine when I see you next and give your opinion. (I'm going to check for a permagrin during the test drive!)

Short throw is one of the best mods IMO. I like the very positive mechanical feel you get to changing gears. Compared to the stock shifter, it snic snic.

I'll just add to be careful when you tighten the screw. The reverse lockout ring is plastic and old. It's not too hard to overtighten and crack the ring ...

I love my Hurst short throw.

Just to throw out my personal experience. I didn't have any problem with the stock shifter either, it always felt good just maybe not the shortest of throws you might expect from a "sports car".

That said I got a decent deal on a a Hurst and bought one on a whim. The WAZOO guys installed it for me earlier this year along with several other upgrades and I have to say I love the new shift action. It's now what I would call a "true" sports car action. Snick! Snick Snick! Snick! That's the only way to describe it. Short, precise and yet not obnoxiously heavy or overwhelming. It takes a little while to "reprogram" your hand but no big deal and once you do, man it feels good!

Thanks again to everyone in the WAZOO!

Dave

P.S. I should add that I was a little worried about losing the reverse lockout but it really hasn't been an issue at all.

I almost bought/traded my hurst one from him when he did my gearbox as I didn't see too much difference in the over-all geometry, but what i did do is have him swap parts from a 95 blue-label ZF allowing for the 'crash-thru' reverse detent. You really have to try to find reverse. I had a 95 base coupe before this car and I really got used to it sans lockout ring.

I think Sammy has the most work on his ZF- that thing shifts itself.

Mine is a Curt White kit for making the stock shifter into a short throw.
I tried the Hurst design (actually designed by Chris somebody who I met at BG) and didn't care for it. Looks too are off. The Hurst shifter looks like a poorsheet shifter or something out of a VW bug.
