I wouldn't put keys on painted gas doors-especially on dark colored Z. That's how you end up with scratches.

Having never seen one, my guess is it is the butterfly out of the secondary air runner.

Yes - secondary throttle body butterfly plate. Removing them gives zero increase in performance, loss of 2-4 mpg.

Zero performance gain, simplified system. I'm ok with that. 2-4 mpg loss, that ain't great. Swollowing a screw (saw that here) also ain't great.

Theres gotsta be a way to screw , loc tite & weld the screws so they wonts comes loose. I really like the power and hate to give up 2-4 mpg especially when the fuel cost goes to $7.00 a gallon..

I didn't realize you lost 2 mpg from a secondary-ectomy.

Yah, you'd think there'd be better economy.
I mean with all the weight reduction of all that complicated stuff under the V. ![]() I still like the idea of better long term maintenance of things that follow the manual (where practical). And knowing that if necessary I could swap out the chip with a stock one when troubleshooting unrelated things. Not to mention being able to shut the valet key off should I allow anyone else to drive it. And then there's that question when a guest is in the car, "what's the Full Power" light mean?" ![]()

Hi Mike,
The loss of economy comes from the swirl effect of a single runner feeding the cylinder (with the secondary closed that port feeds no air), allowing a more lean mixture yet still plenty of horsepower at steady cruise. Honda had a super efficient lean burn engine that employed cvcc technology "Compound Vortex Controlled Combustion" which is the same swirl effect. When that other secondary is opened all the time, this effect is lost, and some economy along with it. My 415 with big cams, big valves, max porting still delivers 26 mpg with 3.73 in the rear - secondaries are retained! |
