That's a very useful document. Thank you for supplying it.

According to the list the 15W-50 Mobil 1 product still has the full ZDDP EP package. I think that a 50 weight viscosity is too high for an engine with less than 100k miles. Except for the higher parasitic friction loss it would probably work well.

I notice that the Mobil 1 High Mileage product is listed as having 1100 ppm of zinc. Since that is only 100 ppm less than the required 1200 ppm, would this work ok for the LT5?

It doesn't seem like 100 ppm less would make much of a difference. That 15w50 is really high viscosity and although my LT5 does have 140K on it, I'd still rather use the regular viscosity if I could.

Or how about that 5w40 diesel truck oil? It's got the 1200 ppm of zinc. Would it work in the LT5, or is it's formulation too significantly different?

I use mobil 1 high mileage at 1100 ppm and call it a day. My car sees low mileage. Get it for $5 quart sometimes $4 quart before mobil 1 rebates and rewards.

Most oils have a rating of SN now. Look at the back of the oil bottle. For an oil that has the zinc for older engines, look for the SM code on the label on the back.

My engine builder had a new engine flatten the cam and sieive the motor at startup. Costly. He now uses the additive and oil with the SM rating.

I think that the Mobil 1 High Mileage would be a good choice. Although the LT5 has flat lifters, it has a light load on them compared to flat tappet two valve engines.

Brett. Be careful about the SM and SN designations. Those designations specify .08% / 800 ppm maximum. Some products like Mobil 1 10W-30 have less. Refer to the Mobil 1 chart in this thread. The bottom line is to check the zinc and phosphorus levels for the product that you are planning to use.

Walmart, and most of the chain auto parts stores, carry it, and I think it comes in 5-30,10-30, and 10-40 viscosities if I recall correctly.

Just picked up three 5 qt jugs of Mobile 1 High Mileage 10w-30 for $25.82 per jug at Walmart. Which equates to about $5.16 per quart. Pretty good deal considering the autoparts stores want over $8 per quart for the same stuff.
