Texas is by far one of the most military friendly states I have ever seen. You will like it here being a military retiree. Houses here are dirt cheap too, you can actually take advantage of the VA home loan program.

Having visited Hawaii several times I would highly recommend Florida over Texas to be in a similar climate. Texas is a great state, but about as different from Hawaii as you can get. If a tropical climate is not something you care about, then Texas would be fine.

Add to that no state income tax, and some counties freeze the school tax when you hit 65 (Comal for one).

With in one year we were here 4 times.
Aug 09 So called vacacation, An uncle passing in Nov, Mother-inlaw passing in Feb and here again.... till the 30th... We are here at least once a year. Its cheep for us here. But Family (on both sides) and friends take up 80% of our time. I think I'll gain another 10lbs before I leave... LOL Time to head out to Leonard's (Malasada) and Waiola's (shaved ice) tomorrow... |
