 The New Posts shows posts that are new in what period of time? In other words....if I do not click on that for a year...what might I see (just new posts in the last week for example)?

Every time I click new posts the new posts (same new posts) seem to stay for a period of time. This is like selecting antifreeze or radiators  it gets complicated......Or....I am just plain st---d
