Re: Uh oh... I've crossed over to the darkside!
One of the synchros was blown on the car. Like I said, they cannibalized another ZF for the job. Perhaps it would have been easier with an outside source but the Corvette techs here are pretty impressive. They assign one to you for the lifetime of the car.
Now, they may not be Haibeck, but pretty damn good from what I've heard.

Re: Uh oh... I've crossed over to the darkside!
dj,
I know Bill Stasek fairly well. He has always run a top notch place and I have bought several vehicles from him because of his superior service. I stll doubt tho that they do as much ZF rebuild work as someone like Boudreau. If you get the chance ask Bill about the stolen ZR-1 story. Very entertaining. |

Re: Uh oh... I've crossed over to the darkside!
I just talked to Bob Stasek and he says that Woody left many years ago. Now the head Corvette tech is a guy named Elvis. As for the stolen Corvette story, he says a Russian theft ring stole a Corvette back in 1991 but he doesn't think it was a ZR-1. Anyway, after he stole it he managed to wreck it out west so the whole thing was very ugly from the dealership's standpoint.

Re: Uh oh... I've crossed over to the darkside!
Hey I just heard the story straight from Bill Stasek's mouth.
He said that a guy rolled into the dealership driving a Porsche that was brand new and still had dealer plates on it. It was late 1990 after the ZR-1 bubble had popped so every dealership was itching to get their ZR-1's off the lot. So, against Bill Stasek's better judgement, he called the Porsche dealership in Arkansas and asked about the car he drove up in. The Porsche dealership said the car was all paid for. He had pay stubs and income tax returns so everything looked fine. So, they went ahead with the deal. A day after the guy drove off with the Z, the Porsche dealership called Stasek and said "I really hope you didn't finish that deal on the ZR-1 because that guy's check just bounced!" After about a month, they found the Z sitting in a train station parking lot safe and sound despite all of the worry. It turns out that they caught the guy after he did the same thing to a Ford dealership after he "bought" a Ford Bronco using the same tactics...

Re: Uh oh... I've crossed over to the darkside!
Same scam at Lamborghini dealer a few years back....car was held at Co-Part in Elgin for some time..sat out in the snow. The oil was drained from the engine when they found it. Fortunately, the guy picking it up checked the fluids and did not start it.
