Just to make sure I understand. You are saying that filter with that label was used on the assembly line in model year 1990?

Default Oil filter ? PF970C

Yes. Most owners have done at least one oil change since 1990! The odds of a factory installed filter is nil. Besides, AC DELCO didn?t make one kind just for the factory and one for the general public or replacement inventory.

Well I have seen them in black with the filter label in the upright position when installed as opposed to the ones shown here., this is why I brought this up.

At the risk of beating a dead horse?
One thing for sure, I know less than everybody on this site so, I am just trying to learn.
I was under the impression this label was used in Model Year (MY) 1990 ZR1 applications. Although a new NCRS TIM&JG is forthcoming, the current version says this label was used in MY 1990, and may say 1991 as well. I do not have the manual in front of me?

As for two versions being used in the same MY, are you sure that was not the case in MY 1990 and others? The reason I ask, there is strong evidence to show there were visual differences in MY 1969 & 1970 between assembly line and service filters.
Assembly line filters were white with black silkscreening. Service filters were white with red & blue silkscreening. Originals have been noted across model lines, Corvette, Camaro, Nova, etc.
Again, my ignorance with regard to our ZR1s is showing. I judge 68/69 at BG and NCRS and am, at least a little, more knowledgable with those years.

Default Oil filter ? PF970C

Pre-production LT5 had the label readable (bottom photo) and so was the first production LT5 engine (top photo).

Thanks I know the black filter with black & white label were used from the factory.

My ? is about the ones with the label oriented upside down when installed as shown by lfalzarano in post 2 of this thread. Did they come from the factory with this filter or was it a mistake on a run of over the counter filters?

The ones with the the label "upside down" when installed are service replacement filters. The filters with the label in the correct orientation when installed are considered correct for the 1990 ZR1s as delivered. I have had multiple 1990 ZR1s judged at the Chapter, Regional and National level and the judges want to see the silver and black labels in the readable orientation when the car is judged. Keep in mind judging is as the car was delivered from the factory.

The filter in Lou's post is a service replacement. Note it says "Duraguard" on the label which is not correct for 1990 NCRS judging without a point deduction.

The filter in your photo as installed is appropriate for the 1990 MY and there should be no point deduction. You are also correct 1968 filters from the assembly line as well as the the 1990 ZR1s had a different filter installed when the engine was assembled by Mercury Marine which was not available as a service replacement.

Several years I bought some of the oil filter labels & they would not stay stuck to the filter. As the oil heated up they would start to curl up & come off. I always spray the filters semi gloss Black so they at least look original.
