Re: CA SMOG Nazi's be dammed
I just failed mine after passing the last 2 =( NO at 15 MPH was 655. Car is fully stock. I think one thing I may have done differently is turning the power key off. I also haven't been driving very much lately. I'm schedule go back again in the morning with some fresher gas and try again. Any ideas?

Sorry to hear that Harry. Hopefully one of the CA guys can help you. Maybe invest in a chip from Marc Haibeck specially for when you smog? Definitely have the power key off and removed. Sent from my iPhone using ZR-1 Net Registry

Re: CA SMOG Nazi's be dammed
Don't know if the power key off is real or an urban legend.
I've smogged mine both ways, didn't see any difference. No tricks to my '90 passing the emissions, just fresh tank full of Chevron Supreme and a spirited 20 minute drive before dropping it off at the Smog Nazi station. My NOX has been close but has never gone over.......yet...... If you fail again, do have a chat with Mr. Haibec, if anybody knows all the secrets it's him. Good luck!! 'Crabs

CA SMOG Nazi's be dammed

I forgot the details of the Marc emissions chip, despite for CA I use the same one in Japan too. Japan is more strict than Cali and there is a 12 modes test of varying scenarios of load/rpms so my power key has to be off. I hope you?re okay tomorrow. Re: CA SMOG Nazi's be dammed
I passed! I went earlier and just drove normally so the engine wasn't so hot. The temp gauge showed lower during the test. If I heard right, the smog guy said the this temp problem won't exist for cars that have an EGR. Also he said failing 15MPH and passing 25 MPH for NOX suggested the cats weren't warm enough yet. So I drove it around the block and straight in to testing. I had also topped off with 6.5 gallons of Chevron Supreme before heading in. Not sure if that helped or not.
I did compare this report with the first and last tests I did at this smog shop. I got a NOX in the high 400s this time. Last time was in the low 400s. The first had the model as "Corvette ZR-1" and had a NOX max in the 700s. The last test had a NOX max in the 500s. The smog guy said his software was updated 3 years ago and showed me that there was only one Corvette model to choose from now and manual vs auto was the only other option he could select from. So it looks like the state now requires ZR-1 to pass using the same ranges as base model Corvettes =(
