Default Re: California Headers

That's what I thought until these popped up. These were sold over the counter also, would like to know what they went for new. Up until now I thought there were no headers legal in California, according to Callaway these pick up 15 HP. Now just need to find a place to work on the car,not looking forward to it but the end result will be well worth it.

Headers are not legal in CD, however, looking at the images my gut feeling is that you'd get though the smog check with those at most stations becuase they have stock cats and for a car that old the person doing the visual might not recognize them as non-OE.

But, it's moot at this point because the item has sold. Not a bad price either.

Boy did I. Hib,these headers are registered in Ca as having an E.O. number stating they comply with all Ca regulation and are in fact legal. Now,spending the cash on a complete system and getting them on the car won't happen until I make an appointment with a smog referee and get confirmation that these are legal. What's odd about these is they have a GM AC Delco part number on them. My plans are have them ceramic coated, wrapped to keep down the heat and a complete BB system out the back. As far as finding a smog tech that might not be smart enough to look for headers, that's a chance I won't take, its 100% legit or nothing.

FWIW, I have the bare Stainless Works headers on mine since '01(?) and have done many cross country trips w/o any discomfort due to heat.

And, aesthetically speaking, one can only (barely) see the flanges and maybe 1/2" of the header tubes viewed from the open hood. You'd have to get under the car to appreciate their good looks! (But, I like the B&B FUSION approach tho!) Porting - invisible to inspectors - would be where my powder coating/wrapping money would go. YMMV!
