Would really like to find out for myself what Marc's 500hp engine drives like. Bet it's a hoot.

Just got back from the test drive. The interior is very rough. It needs new carpet and seats at a minimum. It smells terrible inside as well. Definitely a smoker's car at some point. The A/C does not work, the HVAC selector only has Defrost and Floor options working, can't change it from that. LTPWS light was on.

The exterior is in pretty good shape. It had a full respray at some point. The only issue with the paint was the front bumper could use re spray due to some minor damage.

The engine sounded okay. It is running a wee bit rich from the way the exhaust smells. While driving it didn't seem crazy fast like I would expect a car with that much power to be like. It has some old Sumitumo's on it that are end of life. While driving around 55 MPH and slowly accelrating in 6th gear there was sound similar to marbles in a metal lunchbox. The sound would continue until 2000+ rpm. It does need a new throwout bearing as well. The brakes require a lot of pedal before slowing down. They need to bled at a minimum.

So my question is what is the car really worth? I'm not sure. The interior looks like a 150,000 mile car. The exterior looks like a 50,000 mile car. Wheels are near mint, brakes calipers have been sprayed, everything besides A/C and Radio works. The suspension seems tights, the steering wheel is tight, and no real squeaks or rattle like a typical C4.

This is just a humble opinion - I'd be comfortable having $15k in the car. Based on its needs that would translate to a purchase price of $10-11k. Not everyone wants to dive into a project like this though, so we may hear from folks with different ideas.

The engine is what would sway me toward refreshing this car compared to another mostly stock '92. Without the Haibeck engine this would certainly be a far less than $10k example, and one I'd probably avoid in favor of a nicer one as a point of departure.

So, what is the price tag on a Haibeck 500? and what would it be worth separated from this car?
Could this car be worth more just to part it out?
