They may dislike it all they want. The FACT is that the ZR-1 is a production car. Not a prototype concept car.

It's one thing to make a prototype that performs. It's a another thing completely to produce it.

Apples to oranges.

I find it unlikely he would show up after making the following statement:

From an interview with Reeves Callaway by John Nelson in "Vette" (magazine) dated July 2002, pages 45 and 46
entitled "Reeves Callaway - The Ultimate Insider's Look at the 1978-91 Twin Turbo Corvette Program"

RC: "The ZR-1 program was way over budget and way behind schedule. This was 1986-1/2. But they wanted the
high-tech image, and they went to Lotus, which was a huge mistake. Lotuses, uh, Loti, have released unto the automotive
community some of the biggest disasters of engine design of all time. And the ZR-1 was certainly one of those.
Talk about an overweight, underperforming pig. The ZR-1 is a nightmare of complexity for very little performance."

VETTE: (stunned silence)

Form your own opinion - he took lots of money doing body kits and engine upgrades for the ZR-1 anyhow ...

still

Reeves Callaway: " Talk about an overweight, underperforming pig".
As I said, have you seen Reeves Callaway recently?

Is that the car that took the prize away from the ZR-1? When did that happen? I know when we got it, but not when we lost it.

Nardo is a town in Italy and so is called the test track there.
It is a huge circle and the track is high banked and there are safety
rails. It is, compared to Fort Stockton, rather easy to drive fast there
because it is a constant "curve". The track was built and owned by
Fiat, I believe in 1975. Since 2014 it belongs to the Germans (Porsche).
I would like to see how the Europeans would manage Fort Stockton!
They would not like it and their cars wouldn't either!
Lotus: I think it was never a strategy at Lotus to build anything
heavier than they had to. Their sports cars were lightweights and
Colin Chapman wanted to have his Formula one cars as light as
possible.
