George found the car and has the story. My memory is a little hazy on the details so best contact him. I think he lives near you.

If you follow the threads from this time you will learn a lot from them. I am not well versed on the active suspension cars, I believe GM sold one at BJ the year Eric bought his purple car. If not maybe the next year when GM sold the 89 I found in Florida.(Eric bought that one for a song.)

Bobby

Two active suspension cars were out here in ‘03. I saw one of them, but missed the other. The one was a ’90 build. I later heard that one or both went back East. It was all sort of quiet. And one of them may have been the one sold at Barrett-Jackson in 2009 just prior to the BK. Below is a portion of an article from the era. IDK where the two active cars went. The two ’89 “normal” ZR-1 cars went to Arizona. I believe from two different auctions.

The grills I also recall were off production GM cars.

About how or why they were in California, IDK, however I do know a higher up was retiring out here about the same time.

As of this writing, sevenvintage ZR-1s have already crossed the block, going for $25,300 to $176,000. Ofthem, four were privately owned (Lot #s 91, 353, 644.1 and 760), low-mileoriginals, the best of which was a red 1990 model with only 2,500 miles on theclock that went for $66,000. The other three came from GM's HeritageCollection, which the company is selling off both to raise cash and save moneyon storing the massive number of vehicles in its collection. The first was the1990 Active Suspension Prototype (Lot #82), the first car on which GMexperimented with an early form of active suspension. It sold for $150,700.Later, one of the 83 1989 model ZR-1s that GM built for press fleets and carshows but never released to the public sold for $110,000 (Lot #96).
The star of the early ZR-1s atthe auction is the 1989 "Snake Skinner" car that John Heinricy andcompany built to demonstrate the Corvette's supremacy (Lot #396.1). It featuresa special 475-hp LT5 DOHC V-8 built by MercuryMarine for the project and is just one of 83 models made in 1989. The white"Snake Skinner," so-named for its domination of Mustang Cobras and DodgeVipers, sold for $176,000.

PS, I hear someone is compiling a list or writing a book about the earlier C’4’s.

George

Good information, Tyler and George. Thank you. I'll need a few days to read and absorb that thread.
