Average auto frequency is 12.5 Ex Glass claims; 12.5 claims per 100 vehicles
Consider specialty cars are driven less the frequency then drops to 4.125, maybe lower.....
of the 4.125 ZR-1s per 100 15.5% of those 4.125 per 100 would be totalled
this is .64 per 100 ZR-1s per year
Given 22 years and not considering you would need a graduated scale based upon production per year, which I did not do.....
6922 /100=69.22 69.22 x.64=44.30 44.30 x22 = 974 total losses

I think somewhere between 600-974 totalled Zs

My personal hesitation is based on the problem that I have no way to verify the authenticity of the data I have. It would be a big problem if I posted a VIN as totaled when in fact it was not. The owner of that car would be very upset if he tried to sell the car and my list made the car hard to sell due to the questions it would raise.

I know of several ZR-1's that were were wrecked and "totaled" for the purpose of settling the insurance claim. Then the car was purchased for the salvage price and restored.

Hi Jim--
It's been a while since I have thought about this issue, but I would like to ressurect it. You had mentioned that you would like to see this list be brought to the board and I think that would be a good idea. In fact you indicate that you made a "personal decison" not to publish data you "have gathered". Is that data different from the list that has been published for so long? Is it additonal data? In any case, was the decison to take down the existing list done as a personal decision or in accordance with a board decision? If it wasn't a board decision I don't think it should have been taken down.

I have been a Registry member for the better part of two decades and that list has been an asset of the Registry for as long as I can remember. It is great information that the members of the Registry have gathered over many years and have used in buying decisions. There may be errors on it, and some cars may have been ressurected, but all of it is part of the cars history and should be disclosed. Then a member can make an informed decision about a car. I know of one car that has been advertised in the past year that is a beatuiful, great driving car that I am quite sure was totalled or severly damaged at one point, but that is not disclosed. It may not be known by the seller. I would still buy the car but I would like to know that, as it will come out at some point.

I think that an asset of the club like this should not be arbitrarily sequestered without a lot of discussion. There is very little liabililty risk for the club and it is important information for all of us. Just because you can't verify something or someone won't give you information, there certainly can be a place for comments if someone objects (like parted out or totaled for isurance purposes and restored), a section on VINs with questions, and a simple appeal process to get a VN removed if it seems appropriate. Anyway it is an item I would like to see put back on public display for members only. So lets have it discused. Thanks! -- Bob

well I know for a fact a few of those cars were killed by me.

That list was in the works and built from Long before You became the Pres so I also don't really like how you say the data you gathered, we all have gathered that data.

it was gathered before we became the zr-1 net registry

Reporting of total losses is not a requirement by the US department of justice, we(ins companies) are required to report all total loss vehicles, I am sure salvage companies are requried the same. The fine is $1500 for each occurance.

You can now check most cars for total loss records for free via NICB and other websites, this too is a requirement of the fed government

I've often wondered about the cars that are "destroyed" before being sold like the test mules. I wonder how many of these show up again when actually it's just the VIN tag that is salvaged and put on a different car then show up as "recovered" later.
There's just no way to tell.
