The most wicked sound is this system with mufflers off. I tried this after watching Mark Haibeck do it on his stock system at the drag strip. With 3" dumps it sounds like an insane shriek at 7K.
It actually drew a crowd after a run at the local strip,...WTF!!... Scared all the little ricers.
Regardless of "Best Sounding Exhaust" being subjective, I like your thought about Marc's system. I am seriously thinking about doing this when I put the Dynomax mufflers on.

Wow! I sure do like the looks of that for future builds.

My Turq car has the Watsons, no cats, 3" B&B with an X pipe. Loud as hell and a blast at WOT. Who needs a radio anyway.

It is all subjective, of course, but my vote is for the headers/X-pipe/sans cats/3" duals into the Dynomax 17228s with NPP type vacuum exhaust flow valves. And, with Pete's cams and timing the LT5 has a slight chop in the otherwise stock idle which results in a delicious combination of deep notes with a menacing growl with the NPPs closed. When the gates open, people's heads turn when an LT5 is "speaking"!!

I really have to make a sound clip of my headers random technology cats and flowmaster setup. I know the fbi is rolling there eyes due to the flowmasters lack of flow. And they're right. However, the car is fairly docile at idle and cruise, barely resonates, and at wot sounds simply wicked. I get compliments all the time on it. Also, the main draw for me was the close to stock looking tips.

It's whatever floats your boat. The guys in the FBI really aren't that judgemental. We have our opinions but we don't look down on someone else's preferences.

I know. You guys are great and true pioneers. I didn't mean to insinuate anything different. I've learned a ton from you guys.

Here's a clip of the Dynomax + Z06 control valves. This is before the recent cam upgrade.

I know this is an older thread, but I had Marc do this on WARP TEN in 2012 but then decided I wanted my spare back. Tony Davila did some manual cutouts right in front of the muffler so I decided I could do that also with the QTPs. Had Marc move them there and replace the spare carrier. They work great and we concluded that they probably provide just as much of a HP boost as the other version since they are so far back in the system and in any case when they are open the mufflers still can flow some exhaust. I am happy I did this, along with a hidden rocker switch under the carpet on the passenger side of the console.

And one note on the pictures supposedly about Marc's setup, the picture shown at the top is actually not what he has on his car but the setup he crafts and sells for his customers. In the mid 90s, long before they even had any electric cutouts, Marc sawed off his stock mufflers, welded up some bolt-on flanges and put Dyno Max mufflers on his car. What he does at the races is unbolt the mufflers and leave them off for the runs. Saves weight too but he said if he had to do it again he would go with cutouts.--Bob

I personally like Corsa Exhaust for its design quality, as the straight through design gives less back pressure. As most know who have a ZR-1 the dual outlet tips look good but only one on each side is open and because of flange instead of having 2 1/2 opening there is only 2 1/4 opening on each side, thus more back pressure.
