I think the gauge cluster on the Protos in box 84 of the build sheets are: 83.. 867 is the DIC. I am working on confirming this as I type. Do you know the date code on EX5014s cluster? does it predate 5/87? THe 89 Pilots LR LJ so they are different. Last edited by 1989ZR1#74; 03-10-2010 at 12:07 PM. |

I have a copy of the first PAD (Product Assembly Document) issued 10 Feb 87 for the ZR-1 specific body items. Its what was used on the line to assemble the car. It does not show the inst cluster as being different. Not sure what is going on with that. Tyler Last edited by Tyler Townsley; 03-10-2010 at 09:28 PM. |

I noticed in the list of car theres a Orange Metallic in there. In the late 80s I saw an L98 Orange Metallic base coupe and I also saw a convertible. This shade of orange was very brite and no mistaking it for gold, copper or any other color. Now the odd part.I saw the coupe first parked in front of a grocery store early in the morning.A few days later I saw the convertible parked in the same spot.I have never seen this color on a Corvette again on any other car.Not in a magazine,in the NCM,nowhere. Not to hijack this thread but over the years Ive asked about this and I always get the same answer,it most likely was a shade of copper.Im not color blind,I know the difference. There was an orange in 87 I think but the cars I saw were late 80s.I live in Fremont Ca and there is a G.M. corporate office here so maybe the cars I saw years ago were prototype 89s rolling around town.Does anybody have any pictures of this Metallic Orange?Ive also seen a Pearl White L98 Coupe.

Eric's 004 and 074 89's sure looked great at the NCM. I have a soft spot for Tyler's Queenie for obvious reasons.

It was fun! well back to research. I found a picture of one of the Talledaga test cars. It's in the April 24, 1989 issue of Autoweek. It shows Corvette Challenge driver Bob Noakes with the car. It is either EX5009 or EX5024 since those are the only "Orange Metallic" Prototypes. Note the holes in the rear cover to hide the rectangular tail lights (see HOB page 93)
