Day 22: After our visit to Capitol Reef National Park, we turned East and started our return trip to Westminster. We took UT-24 northwest to I-70 East. We left early in the morning to beat the days heat. We were rewarded with some interesting sunrise views:
Another "Open Road" picture. We were on UT-24 for about 1.5 hours and saw three cars. We stopped in Grand Junction for a brief visit. Grand Junction has a vibrant and charming downtown area. There is an active public art program, and we enjoyed the sidewalk sculptors: We continued on to Avon, CO, a ski resort town near Vail. The view from our hotel window was stunning: Jim |

Day 23: On the way home. We left Avon, Co early in the day. The temperature in Avon surprised us:
From our hotel to I-70 was about half a mile and we were: "On the Road Again!" There are still snow patches of snow through out the Rockies. Crossing the Rocky Mountains on I-70 is a special treat for me. The scenery is fantastic and I have been on these roads since 1962 when my family visited Colorado on a family vacation. ![]() Wide Load headed up into the Rockies. My guess is a ski lodge near Vail: We don't need no stinking Bypass, we just stayed on I-70 for rush hour. Despite all the construction, we were not delayed: to be continued..... |

HVAC Update.....As we crossed the Rockies the outside temperature was low so we did not need to use the AC. After Denver, the temperature rose and we turned on AC. -- We got cold air!!!!
When we got to Hays, KS to stop for the night, the temperature was 95 degrees out side and the AC was keeping it cool inside. We were running with the thermostat set on 60 degrees (full Cool) and the Fan speed, running in manual, was set to 3. Jim |

Day 24: Thursday We got underway very early to beat the afternoon heat. On our way out of Hays, KS we watched the Sun putting on a show with the clouds:
As we headed east, the terrain became hillier: There are some oil well near the Interstate that are still producing crude: We stopped for the day in Wentzville, KS, a suburb of St Louis. We enjoyed a casual dinner with some of Corvette friends, swapping car stories. Jim |

Day 25: On Friday we left Wentzville, KS, crossed the Mississippi River and drove on to Columbus, OH.
Once again, we left very early and arrived at the Mississippi River in the pitch dark. Lyndi got some interesting motion exposures of the lights on the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge: There are a lot of prosperous farms along I-70: WARNING if you are travelling east on I-70, beware. East of Indianapolis, there is a 1.5 mile section of the eastbound lane closed to traffic. All of the cars and trucks have to drive down the shoulder. 1.5 miles took about 3 hours. Welcome to Ohio: Jim |
