Hello Toni,

Sound good. I don't think we have that Mobil1 in the US. What kind of PPM does it have for phosphorous and zinc?

When are you and your brother coming out to C4/ZR-1 Gathering at BG again?

Take care and Aloha,

Wow!
Those pole results...
A stunning endorsement of ExxonMobil's marketing of the "Mobil 1" brand.

In fact, that the three highest poling engine oils all come from companies which market very aggressively speaks volumes about how oil companies market products and what consumers believe about oil company advertising.

According to what was posted previously, the M1 5W50 available in Spain is an API SL-rated oil BUT, is exempt from the ZDDP limits in that category because it's a 50-wt. According to ExxonMobil information I have on file, zinc is 1000 ppm and phosphorous is 1200 ppm.

Keep in mind that no LT5 needs an SAE 50 engine oil unless the duty cycle is severe in very hot weather. For normal street use and even street high-performance use, I would not recommend a 5W50 in an LT5.

Also, LT5s are OHC engines with direct acting bucket tappets. The loading on the camshaft lobes and lifter faces are far less in an OHC valve train than they are in a pushrod valve train, thus, there is no need for high levels of ZDDP.

It's more than advertising. The widespread availability and subsequent lower price also account for the predominance of the Mobil 1 brand. Also, having a Mobil 1 placard under the hood helps. Name recognition and being the first to market synthetic on a large scale don't hurt either. You are correct that marketing is a big driver of our choices. Amsoil is marketed as a " craft oil" to those who don't like the thought of a mass produced product in their pride and joy. Do they fill a niche in the market? Yes. Do they do more or better research the Mobil or Castrol? Probably not. Things that that make you say hmmmm.

80 degree afternoons and sunny. The GTX has a gas tank leak. But that is part of owning antique cars!
