May 24 - We are still relaxing in Park City, Utah. We spent some time down town in Historic Park City:

Lyndi took a moment with one of the city's residents:

It took me a minute to figure that out. Now we know two things. Jim is a lousy typist and Phil is paying attention.

Day 25 - still in Park City. We went on a white water rafting trip. There only two rafting sites around Salt Lake City and we chose the longer and swifter on but it was not really "white water". I guess it would be rated a weak 2 on a five scale, but since it was a hot day and the water was cool, we had fun. To get to the launch site we drove 24 miles east on I-80 and then 3 miles north on I-84. The rafting was on the Weber River:

We were lucky to get our own raft and guide who's name was Tron:

The original alignment of the Union Pacific railroad follows the Weber River on it approach to Promontory Point. Along the tracks are telegraph poles that were part of the Trans-continental telegraph that connected east and west as much as the railroad did.

This tree was planted by the Union Pacific railroad to mark a point that is 1000 miles from San Francisco and 1000 miles from St Louis:

In several places the river is crossed by bridges of different heights and construction. This bridge was the lowest and we had to lie down in the raft to get under it:

Below the bridge we stopped and spent time floating down the river in the strong current:

Here is Lyndi enjoying the cool water after our strenuous (not) run down river:

At the take out point we were all smiles:

Day 26 - On Sunday we left Park City and drove east on I-80.

The landscapes in south west Wyoming are interesting:

And so is the wild life:

We exited I-80 and headed south back into Utah to get to the southern section of Flaming Gorge. We found a cowboy herding sheep:

One got out of the fence:

We drove to Flaming Gorge Recreation Area which is in the Ashley National Forest, partly in Utah and partly in Wyoming.

The gorge was formed when the Green River cut a deep canyon through the limestone layers.

We arrived at the southern area of the gorge and from an over-look got our first view of the gorge:

In the early 1960's the Green River was dammed to create the Flaming Gorge Reservoir as a part of the Colorado River water control system:

We continued on up the hill to one of many other over-looks. The roads are in good condition and were fun to drive:

Then we were stunned by the beauty and grandeur of the Flaming Gorge:

The best place to stay to see the Flaming Gorge is in the "park" at the Red Canyon Lodge, on the Utah part of the Gorge, on the gorge rim, and about 15 miles west of the Flaming Gorge Dam.

We had a nice diner at the lodge and then went to our cabin on a small lake:

The next morning we watched a beautiful sunrise:

Day 27 - We drove from Flaming Gorge to Laramie, Wyoming. As we left the gorge, we paused to enjoy the colors in the early morning light:

The still water reflected the colors of the cliffs:

After two days of trying, Lyndi finally caught these Humming Birds:

We followed the road north:
