Default Ignition / No Start

I know this topic has been discussed before, but are the parts still available for the clutch switch for a '92 ZR-1?

Today this happened to me for the second time in my two years of ownership with this car.

Drove the car for twenty minutes, parked it, returned to start it up and nothing. The key I was using is new, the old key still works as well. I observed the voltage guage, and it did not drop when the clutch was depressed, so I figure it is the clutch switch.

Rather than jumping it like other threads have directed, I would rather replace the malfunctioning parts. So do these parts still exists?

Thanks,

Joe

This what I found at RockAuto.com using a '92 ZR-1 look up.
D2213A is the ac delco P/N that they list at about $28.00 + shipping. The GM P/N appears to be 10045822.

I can appreciate you wanting to replace the malfunctioning part, but from my understanding the clutch switch is the weak point and will fail again due to contact wear and current draw. That is the major reason I installed a bigger relay to handle the wear and current load and it is MUCH eazier to get to that replacing the clutch switch. If I remember correctly, if you move the driver seat all the way back....then get on your back and lay on the floor and look up.. you can see it buried. Look at figure 11 in 8A-201. the switch mounts at the top of the clutch pedal bracket and uses a linkage(most linkages I've ever seen uses clips to retain them) to hook to the clutch pedal. A jumper can eazily be placed in connector 222 and the remote relay mounted near the battery as I did. Good luck with which ever route you take.

Tom
The 90-91 ckt is different than the 92+, the 90-91 runs too much current through the switch, 92 up use it as a switch to activate a heaver relay so using a 92+ switch on a 90-91 does not solve the problem. Either use a higher rated switch or rewire it to act a a switch for a heaver relay.

I have a '92 ZR-1 that had the exact same "NO Start" condtion you are experiencing. I chased the usual suggestions: VATS, 12 Volts to the purple wire, ground wiring, and clutch switch. When the "NO Start" condition occured, I tried by passing the clutch switch with a jumper wire, still "NO Start". I ran a 12 Volt wire from the battery to the puple wire to the starter and nothing. I had to push start the car to get it home. The starter would then function normally for a few months then the "No Start" condititon would appear. I eliminated everything in the loop and determined the starter itself was malfunctiong probably by a previous owner washing the engine down. Water in the vee don't mix. I pulled the plenum myself in less than 3 hours. My "No Start" has not appeared in the last 4 years. I suggest trying a jumper wire first before replacing the clutch switch. Eliminate the other areas in the loop then go ahead and R&R the starter. Let us know how you make out.

Brothers:

Thanks for all of the responses and I apologize for the delay. I just returned from Bowling Green, attending the C5/C6 Birthday Bash with my Z06. I spoke with Jim VanDorn and it was his opinion the problem is the starter itself. I will get the ZR-1 to Jim early Wednesday morning and his shop will do the repair. Hopefully I will be in business and see you all at the hotel late Wednesday evening.

Again, thanks for the comments and as usual, you guys are on target.

Sure will be an expensive starter if it's the clutch switch.
Since it is a 90 I'd say clutch switch.

The car is a 1992 model year ZR-1. I will inform everyone of the findings. See you in Bowling Green.

Arrived at AutoMasters early Wednesday morning. Parked the car, tried to start it ten minutes later, and nothing.

Jim had the new starter ready to go. He flew in Jim Jr. just for the repair, so I'm told. They made quick work of it. Long story short, no more problems starting the car!

They took excellent care of the car, even addressed some things they noticed during the repair.
