Hood Stuck Driver's Side
1992 Hood Stuck Driver's side.
Cable pulls & releases pass side OK. Driver's side stuck like pin's bent. This dumb butt has a banner hanging from the garage door. Had the hood open and the banner caught on the hood, before garage door reversed. So, I've been something. Question - need ideas on how to get the hood open with a stuck hood pin? Saw several posts about Kilbrew's hood release tool and will get one ordered. Don't know if that'll help or not. Thanks in advance. Gary .... |

Re: Hood Stuck Driver's Side
Most of us have been there. What I found that worked for me was to drive the front wheel up on a ramp. As I recall the ramp needs to be under the opposite side from the latch that is stuck. I also found that a jack under the frame won?t work because it doesn?t put any twist on the frame. I was trying to adjust the pins so that both latches engage at the same time. I always have to push the pass side down to latch it. After I got the hood stuck three times trying to get it to work I set it back to the original location and decided that walking around to latch the pass side wasn?t such a big deal. Hope this helps.

Re: Hood Stuck Driver's Side
RodB,
Your suggestion was spot on. My 92's not movable since am in process of installing new DeWitt's 2 row radiator. Removed the driver's side tire and let the jack down almost to the floor. Wallah, the driver's side hood opened right up. Now to figure out if I've moved the hood or bent a hood latch pin. Thanks again for your help. Gary .... |

Re: Hood Stuck Driver's Side
One of the first mods I did to my car was to run cables that lay underneath the hood, around the hood latches, easily accessible if one side or both don't release. Just reach in, grab the cable and pull and the hood latch releases and the hood opens. If you don't know they are there, you won't see them. Very easy, almost no cost, a no-brainer. And much easier than fussing with a metal bar and trying to release the latch.

Re: Hood Stuck Driver's Side
My wire cables go around the latches and just lay over the rubber boot below the hood and lay in front of the wipers. No drilling or any fanciness to this. Easy to reach and not seen from outside if you don't know they are there.
