Am I looking for trouble using a R12 switch when my system is R134? I realize the pressures are set differently but looking for a solution.
From everything I've read, and discussions with Mark H, R134a will work fine with the R12 components.
You are correct that all 94-95 R134a components are metric thread, including switches. 90-93 R12 fittings are all SAE (American) thread.

You may have bought the wrong one. Keep everything SAE.

That means I have to get the R12 switch but my system is now R134. Just was concerned that operating the R12 switch with a R134 system could cause problems but guess not.

Now have cold R134a AC.

Ended up swapping the plate on top of the R134a Compressor with the one from my old R12 Compressor.
Used the compressor hose assembly that had correct metric coupling nuts for the accumulator and condenser ends, and the incorrect R12 fitting on the compressor end.

All other parts were correct 94-95 R134a AC stuff.

Parts replaced (all 94-95 ZR-1):
Condenser
Evaporator
Compressor
Accumulator/Dryer
All 3 hose assemblies
All 3 switches.
Orifice/filter

Good Parts left over (90-93 ZR-1 R12 system)

Evaporator
All 3 hose assemblies
All 3 switches (not sure if they all work)
R12 Compressor is rebuildable (I think this is where my leak was, needs correct adaptor plate).

If anyone needs any of the above, hit me up.
Paul,

Sorry I'm late to the dialog.. I too simply swapped my manifold from my old R-12 compressor to the R134 compressor. Simple swap..

Glad you got it going!

Steve

Marc said no problem using a R12 compressor cycle switch on a converted 134 system so will do that.

Reviving this old thread from last year. I just replaced my condenser and accumulator/dryer. In trying to disconnect the dryer from the Compressor hose I discovered that flange nut from the hose to the dryer had welded itself to the dryer (dissimilar metals) and was impossible to remove. After removing the compressor hose with the dryer attached I managed to get the nut off but found that the threads of the flange nut were so badly galled that the compressor hose could not be reused. My local hose shop couldn't rebuild it either.

In shopping for a replacement compressor hose I discovered that they are not in abundant supply. There are really two places that sell them. "The Parts Place" and "Volunteer Vettes". The 90-92' and 93-95' compressor hoses are not interchangeable. They are pricey as well. $150-180 plus shipping. I got mine from Volunteer and had it in hand in a few days. So if your stocking up on parts you may want to add this one to your list.
