Default New owner looking for tire/wheel advice

My first post here after buying a 1991 #0685. I'm needing to replace the original tires with a set of Nitto's (as widely recommended here). The wheels are in as new condition with only 3700 miles, but the tires are badly cracked. So my concern is to preserve these wheels in as new as possible. My questions are:

1. I will be using tape weights with the new tires. How do you deal with the nicks and gouges left by the old weights?

2. My tires are badly cracked, do they have any value to keep them?

3. Should I just save the tires and wheels and install new wheels as well?

I did try to do a search but I'm not sure how to do it correctly, I'm not so tech savvy. I'm open to all opinions and will be seeking help on a few other issues.

Depends if you are an NCRS type or not. As far as wheels go, you can have them redone just as the factory did at http://www.wheelcollision.com/ . There are other places but they did a good job on my NCRS 95. be prepared for about $200 per wheel. As far as weights go, stick on weights same the wheel finish but are incorrect for NCRS. I have sticky weights on my non NCRS cars and static balance , to the gram, with clip on weights only on the back side of the wheels. Not as exact a balance but it is a trade off, I have no vibration. Again, on the NCRS side, if you still have the original valve stems SAVE THEM (or sell them to me) as they are hard to replace. Also, your car has bands with tire pressure sensors on them, old style, and they are easy to break with people unfamiliar with the older technology.

Thanks Corvette95! I don't have any plans for NCRS, but I don't want to hurt the value of the car.

NCRS is going to become more important as time goes by. If you have the storage space, save the tires. You can't buy 1991 tires anymore, at least not new ones. I have my fronts, tried to give them away, I still have them.
Rims, at your discretion. There are shops out there that can fix them.
Save the valve stems. Save the valve stems. Save the valve stems. Do I need to say it again?
