Default Service ride control light

My service ride control light would come on from starting the car up and not moving it. Then when I would move my car it would go out pretty quick. Now the last couple of times it would stay on while I take it for quick ride and not go off until I shut the car off and start it back up again. Is this normal?

No. This is not normal. Suggest pulling codes.

Codes will tell you for sure. Mine did this. Marc found a code for the actuator being slow and suggested cleaning it. I popped the top and cleaned the gears in the actuator, problem solved. Need the codes to know which one(s) to clean though.

It absolutely has a problem.
Make a very careful visual inspection of each.
You will likely see the problem.
Easier to pull codes, but your eyes should be able to see which one is performing below an acceptable level.
As you switch through the 3 settings a careful inspection should enable you to ID the one that is sluggish or not moving.
Keep us posted so that we can help.

Make sure the tops are securely seated on the shock’s gears.

Thanks everyone for your input
Marty - How do I go about checking the shocks while moving the switch in the car ? This is a two person operation? I will check to make sure nothing is loose. Easy to do with the front shocks as far as rear shocks can this be done without being on a lift?

Two people required.
Fronts almost always seem to be the predominant ones to have an issue.
Codes ARE the biggest help!
Rarely is it ever the shock.
It is almost always the position of the motor on the stem, or a pinch in the wire.
Can't rule out back ones, but they are up where not much can hit the motor or the wiring.
Make certain the metal ring clip is fully seated on each.

The fronts have no dust cover and are exposed to the elements, and tend to get sand/grit in them, as posted above clean them out.

So I inspected the front shock actuators and found no broken parts but, I did find the hex nut loose on the drivers side front shock. I thighened it up and also blow out any dirt that may have been their. They were very clean. I have not looked at rear shocks yet. To hard to do on your back. Not sure if this is my issue. Will find out on the next ride.

Thanks again for everyone’s help and knowledge
