Default C8 Corvette

According to the WSJ, GM will not be producing hybrids in the future. So we can assume the C8 will remain a gasoline vehicle for this generation, SANs the stick shift.

I'm not sure that I'd believe that story to apply to the C8.

One reason GM went to a mid-engine car is the platform was "maxed out" at 755-hp much less for an even more power.

The only way to make the car perform well with more horsepower is all-wheel drive.

If the Corvette was to be "all-IC" GM will have to develop a complex and heavy mechanical system to transfer torque from the mid-engine to the front axle.

Another way to get AWD and dispense with a prop shaft and a drive axle assembly is to use electric drive up front. This system would not be capable of moving car by itself. It would be enabled only when the driver wants maximum torque output. The battery pack would be pretty small.

There are other high-performance sports car which use a hybrid configuration in this manner.

I'm going to guess a V8 with 550-600-hp driving the rear wheels and 300-400 hp worth of electric motor(s) driving the front wheels.

Hib,

I would tend to agree w u. The use of electric drive would also have the advantage of literally dynamic torque vectoring.

I don’t think any executive at GM would go against Mary Barra’s future vision for GM of only full electric powered vehicles. You’ll just have to wait for the C9, if you’re young enough.

According to GM's numbers, my 2016 Z06 is already capable of those numbers. More than enough for me so I think I will keep my 2016 for the time being. ---Bob

Lou, I am sure it will be a fine and powerful car. I usually wait a few years before I buy a model, so I would probably be looking at something in 2024 or 2025. At which time I will be getting mighty close to 80 years old. If I am lucky. So despite the Mickey Thompson quote in my signature, 650 HP is probably enough for me for now and the foreseeable future. Of course I can try to prolong that foreseeable future as long as possible by reducing my life-long consumption of the "Four Bs"--Beef, Bacon, Butter and Booze. So who knows what the future will bring? But maybe I will decide that a possibly shorter foreseeable future is more fun with the Four Bs and more HP!--Bob

You forgot the 5th “B” - Babes. I’m just a few years behind you. I might go for a used Z51. I can will my Z to my son and a black (daughter loves black) Z51 to my daughter. That if I live a little longer.
