Officially they claim the Cadillac motor won’t power the Mid-Engine.

I still think that’s just corporate speak. A different version of this motor will. Highly unlikely GM will develop two similar but separate motors of this type at the same time.

Well so it seems Cadillac is tacitly acknowledging the existence of an ME Corvette platform.

BMW has had a Hot V setup since 2008--ten years. Seems to work OK. --Bob

Hans,

I think the Corvette version of this motor will not feature a Hot V config. For packaging purposes, it doesn't need to be. Any pics of the camo'd ME, show the exhaust tips on the outside corners of the rear nd and not exiting the middle of the car as they do now. This is also confirmed from the "unofficial" CAD drawing that have been posted on CF. Look at where the exhaust headers are placed.

Hope GM conquers some of the issues BMW encountered with their hot-v setup. There is a good write up at the eEuroparts blog which sheds light on the fire-sale pricing of some of their recent models on the used market.

The exhaust on the Caddy 4.2 TT DOHC engine exits on either side of the engine, similar to where a conventional V8 exhaust exits.

I agree, Cadillac and Chev have history sharing engines. LS6 in the CTS-V and 01-04 Z C5 ZO6.
556hp LSA in the 2nd GEN CTS-V and the 580hp LSA in the Camaro ZL1 along with the 09-13 638hp LS9, all blown 6.2 liter GEN 4 SBCs, though I will admit though they all share the same basic architecture, the LS9 does have some prominent "goodies" separating it from the LSA.

Maybe the 550hp Cadillac 4.2liter/256cid TT DOHC engine isn't outputting enough for the new C8 Mid Engine Vette. It wasn't long ago when the 5.5/336cid liter version of the GEN 5 SBC wasn't approved for the new 2014 C7 due to insufficient low rpm torque for a car of Corvette caliber when in V-4 mode, hence the 6.2/376cid displacement was retained.

Though the CT6 V-Sport which is where the 4.2 TT DOHC engine will reside, is no small car, and being a Cadillac wont be a lightweight either. Though it's 10 speed automatic could help offset any low rpm torque insufficiencies.

I wonder if/when the Cadillac XLR program might be restarted at Bowling Green?
The new 2019 4.2 liter TT DOHC will be made at Bowling Green, so they wouldn't have to ship engines far.

The CAD drawings of the ME show headers that remain outside of the motor unlike the manifolds on the Caddy which appear to route exhaust to the V valley of the motor for the turbos. Whether that’s the final config, we’ll need to wait and see.
