Default ZR-1 head remal

You need the GM service Manual for your model ZR-1.
There’s more to reassembling than removing. The LT5 is not like your typical overhead valve engine.
Head R&R can be done in-car, but much more difficult. The engine needs to be removed, especially for cam timing.

I have removed cam covers as well as heads with engine in car. But like Jerry suggests......it would be near impossible to re-install the heads or time the camshafts with engine in car. Also.....after you have the Heads removed with engine in car, what is left you can almost lift out by hand

See LT5 Specific Rebuild Tricks which includes complete photo coverage of an LT5 Rebuild including engine removal and installation.

Would this make the cylinder have no compression?

When there is no compression build up at all on a cillinder, it means the area above the piston is not building up any pressure in the compression stroke.
Reasons can be bad pistons rings, valves which are not closing proper and more things.

I suggest to get in contact with one of the specialist shops for the LT5, an LT5 engine is not a job for every mechanic in town. You need to have the skills and some special tools. If you are not a good knowledge about those engine don’t touch it. Or you take the risk and can make more damage.
