Gas filler spout rust removal - ZR-1 Net Registry Forums

Anybody out there know a good way to remove rust and crud from under the gas cap ? I am changing out both my fuel pumps, and would like to clean up the area under the gas cap while the assembly is out.
I tried using ZEP ALUM WASH, but it's not strong enough.
Any ideas ? Thanks
