CAFE driving a Favorable change for us
So the wife and I are looking for a replacement for her car, a 2011 Mercedes E550; NA but tuned to 415hp and 418ftlbs. So we have been shocked to see that the cars that been traditionally powered by Twin Turbo eights or NA 8s are now 6s and 4s. Now before you say they make the same power, no they don't.
The replacement for my wifes car is an E400 Coupe, 329hp out of a v6 TT and it tunes to 390. You also see E series sedans with 4s. (yes the 9 speed trans helps) I guess we will continue to see some huge HP cars, and electric is coming....but maybe the CAFE standards are going to drive avg HP down and hopefully more interest in our cars and V8s in general?

Re: CAFE driving a Favorable change for us
Agreed. The other thing driving these changes are the emissions changes the MFG's are faced with. The government is essentially killing the internal combustion engine by cranking down the emissions standards to levels that are unobtainable. I forget the year, but I believe by 2025, based on currently available technology, only hybrids will meet the standards. I was personally involved in these discussions while I was with Mitsubishi and Hyundai these past few years. The MFG's are hoping the Trump administration backs down the EPA and slows down this push to zero emissions.
