Default Advice on transporting ZR-1 on trailer

Any advice on trailering a ZR-1? Is clearance a major issue to load and unload? Thanks!

I don't have any direct experience trailering Corvettes, but if you do a search of this forum, you might find lots of info.

Depends on what style trailer, if the car is lowered and a few other small things. The car has tie down spots on the frame which makes it easier to strap down.

Keep an eye out for the drivers door and the wheel well of the trailer. If it's tight like most are , just bail out through the rear hatch.
Try to watch for the proper tongue weight also.

I prefer to strap to the wheels or suspension which lets the vehicle's suspension work. Strapping to the frame puts lots of stress on the trailer's
suspension and floor, and you have to keep checking to make sure the straps are tight. I have an enclosed trailer and with it hooked to the truck I jack the tongue up which gives a lesser slope to the ramp. Your results may vary ...

Dittos on the tie-down points!!

I had to have my '95 put on a flatbed last year and neither I nor the tow truck guy knew (at the time) about those tie points. Making a long SS, one of my A frames got "tweaked". I, with the help of a couple hydraulic jacks and a homemade jig, was able to tweak it back to where the subsequent wheel alignment turned out to be, "Well, it's actually, technically within spec..."

I guess I got lucky. I haven't gotten down on the floor and looked for the tie downs on my "new" Z, but I'm told they are there. I will be danged sure I use them before I allow anyone to grab one of the A frames again with a steel hook and start winching!!!

I have a open trailer that I've used to occasionally cart my '70 drop-top and '78 Trans Am around (haven't needed to cart the Z anywhere yet).

As mentioned above I use the trailer's tongue jack to raise it a bit reducing the climb up angle of the ramps (the dove tail drop of the trailer helps also). I also put a floor jack under the rear edge of the trailer so it stays stationary while loading or unloading. The trailer fenders can be easily removed so door clearance isn't an issue.

I used to secure the car by the tires/wheels but didn't like the feel of it bouncing and bobbing around back there. Securing the car by the frame makes it feel more solid. I criss-cross the front tie-downs but not the rear ones.
