Default New ZR1 and C8 winter testing...

http://blog.caranddriver.com/zr1-and...weather-tests/

Due to moving to a new place ( still no garage for my Beast ....) but I've been on an internet black out. This morning I read this, and GM may have just change my mind on the mid - engine C8. I will never be able to afford one, but wow!! And the ZR1, just look at that wing. They are going all out which makes me smile lol.

If you think about it, How much more expensive would it be to make a mid engine transaxle car vs. a front-rear car? Let's assume every car made will be this configuration so GM will have economy of scale over 30,000+ vettes coming out of Bowling Green.

So you would have some radiator coolant tubes under the car... you can ditch the torque tube. it might not be that much harder to service the clutch on the mid engine car...either way, your dropping the cradle and lifting the body off of it.

Not sure if they will keep the 6.2 LT1 as the base engine, but they could have 400-something hp high feature base engine (hopefully dohc at some point) in a smaller displacement? or because of the direction everybody is headed... twin hairdryers and maybe Voltec hybrid electric assist. Will they make a base mid engine at $60k...that is what I want to know.

Somehow I had gotten the impression that the current C7 chassis could easily be modified to accommodate a mid-engine layout. And if the mid-engine is going to be a tour-de-force for GM, it suggests to me that they could show up w not just a me-too mid-engine, but to also leverage their Volt experience and platform for AWD using motors up front.
A bit of "I see your GT and raise you AWD". JMHO, no other knowledge.
