ZF black/blue tag for 94
Since the car is apart I figured I'd replace the throwout bearing. The trans in my 94 is a black tag, not a blue tag. The collar does measure 1.305 like it should for a 94. Is my trans a replacement? Looks like it was never removed before I did. The tag number is 1052-000-081
Thanks

Re: ZF black/blue tag for 94
That is what I would have expected for a '94 - there was once a bunch of very bad information out there regarding the transmissions , the tag etc. Your car if it hasn't had an aftermarket shifter installed should still have a "lift-ring" for reverse. I believe if you check the left side of the transmission you can likely find the VIN derivative on the case.
Very dependent maybe on miles I might prefer the TO that's there vs some of the replacement product that's out there. **I just noticed the B&M shifter in your SIG so the lift-ring has gone away!! Last edited by WVZR-1; 12-25-2016 at 02:04 PM. |

Re: ZF black/blue tag for 94
Car has under 25 on it and the old one is perfect with no noise. I was going to change while it's apart till I saw the crazy prices. If it ever goes bad I'll just change out to a lightweight setup. I still have my original one from the GS somewhere in the garage attic.
I put the B&M in and yes it had the lift ring.

As an aside, the earlier black tags are marked "Made in West Germany."

Cliff, If the OP is not interested it's yours. I have a lot of parts but usually don't sell unless someone is in need. Yes, this is the real deal for later model trans with INA04 bearing and insert collar. Not the cheap crap out there that is not worth the labor involved. I have another early model bearing too. I think I paid too much for it back in the day, but will dig it up and sell it too. I'm going to get rid of all the early model parts since my 95 will be my last ZR-1.
