The car, truck or motorcycle you drive each day is what it’s all about. If you’ve ever wanted to race friends or family for a change-of-pace evening of pure fun, then BRING IT to Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park and RUN IT! Experience the heart-pounding adrenaline of waiting to launch off the starting line at a world-class drag strip to see what elapsed time and mph your car can run – or match-race your friends! Friday Night Drags is the safest and easiest place to test your car’s performance capabilities – make a run, pick up your time/mph slip, then get right back in line. Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park is a premier and historic national sports venue. It has been home to NHRA-sanctioned national events since its opening in 1983 with some mind-blowing record speeds being clocked here. Now it’s your chance to charge down the drag strip for a night of exhilarating fun. This event is open to the public and spectators are always welcome. We offer: Free parking Great food and beer concessions Torco Race Fuel available for purchase Gates open at 6pm Racing starts at 7pm Last run leaves the line at 11:30 pm Racer Tech Card $40 Spectators $15 Kids under 12 Free **************************************** WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR FRIDAY NIGHT DRAGS: SAFETY IS OUR FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION! There is a 10 mph speed limit everywhere within the facility – EXCEPT THE DRAG STRIP! There are many children and spectators moving around the grounds of Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park – and some areas are not brightly illuminated. Therefore, it is important that everyone observes our 10 mph speed limit everywhere on the facility. Technical Inspection Every car/driver begins by undergoing Technical Inspection. This includes inspecting the vehicle for safety items, verifying the driver’s license and ensuring the driver (and authorized passengers) are properly attired. As an NHRA-sanctioned track, we (and you, the racer) are required to comply with the current NHRA rulebook. See www.nhra.com or www.nhraracer.com for access to current rules. Vehicle Tech Inspection All wheel lug nuts must be properly installed and tight. All wheel studs must engage the threads in the lug nut to a depth equal to the diameter of the stud. This applies to all wheels, not just the drive wheels. Broken studs or missing lug nuts cannot be permitted. Battery must be securely mounted in the vehicle – this means a normal mechanical/structural battery hold-down (OEM recommended). Bungee cords, ropes, cargo straps, belts, wire, etc. are not acceptable. If the battery has been relocated, there are several additional requirements – consult one of our Tech Inspectors for further information. Seat Belts: Vehicle must be equipped with serviceable OEM seat belts for every occupant – or a SFI spec 16.1 five-point driver restraint system. Nitrous Oxide: Bottles must be securely and permanently mounted. NOS line to the engine must be braided steel or NHRA-approved. Bottles located in the passenger compartment must be equipped with a relief valve vented to the outside of the vehicle. Automatic transmission vehicles must have a functional neutral safety switch, which means the engine can only start with the transmission in Park or Neutral and must not start in gear. There are many further requirements in the NHRA Rulebook, based on elapsed time and terminal speed vehicle performance. Safety equipment requirements are greater the faster the car runs. At Friday Night Drags, it is rare that a well-maintained street-driven vehicle with a responsible driver fails Technical Inspection, but it does sometimes happen. If you have any doubts about your vehicle, consult one of our Tech Inspectors for guidance. License Driver must have a valid and current state or government-issued driver’s license beyond learner’s permit level, or an NHRA competition license of the appropriate category. Clothing Requirements Every driver must be properly attired from a fire-safety viewpoint. This includes full-length pants, short- or long-sleeved shirt, closed shoes and socks. No shorts, tank tops, open-toed or open-heel shoes, or sandals allowed. Synthetic fabrics are not recommended, as they tend to melt in a fire and increase the severity of any burns. If your car runs quicker than 11.50 seconds in the quarter mile, you are required to wear an SFI spec 3.2A/1 fire jacket. If your car is non-OEM (aftermarket) turbocharged, supercharged, or nitrous equipped and runs quicker than 14.0 seconds, you also must wear an SFI spec 3.2A/1 jacket. Passengers Each car that runs 14.0 seconds or slower may have one passenger/co-driver. Due to insurance and liability considerations, we cannot and will not accept the driver’s promise that he/she “will not run quicker than 14.0”, just to take a passenger. Authorized passengers must meet the same licensing and clothing requirements as the driver and must also sign the same Tech Card and liability waiver that the driver signs. Helmets Helmets are required for drivers of cars that run quicker than 14.0 seconds in the quarter mile – and for drivers in a convertible regardless of elapsed time. Approved helmets are Snell-certified M2005, M2010, SA2005 or SA2010. All helmets must display the appropriate Snell certification sticker inside. M2000, SA2000, M95, M90 and older helmets are expired and may no longer be used. DOT helmets are not approved for use on any NHRA track. Motorcycles Motorcycles must have a chain/belt guard covering the top run of chain/belt at least to the centerline of the rear axle. All bikes must have two-wheel brakes and snap-back throttle, and functional constant-on red taillight for night drags. Bikes that run quicker than 11.0 seconds must be equipped with an ignition cutoff switch attached by lanyard to the rider, unless equipped with a functional OEM “fall-over” switch (subject to testing). Rider must wear leather jacket, leather gloves and leather high-top (above-the-ankle) shoes. (Kevlar and other jacket materials have not received NHRA approval as of yet, therefore, jackets must be leather.) Riders of motorcycles running faster than 120 mph in the quarter mile must wear full leathers. Two-piece suits must zip together at the waist. Riders must wear a full-face helmet meeting the same Snell specs listed in the “Helmets” section above. Open-face, DOT, Shorty or Wehrmacht-style helmets are not permitted. Riders must meet the same licensing requirements as other drivers, plus their license must display a motorcycle endorsement. NHRA DRAGS: Street-legal Style Presented by AAA This is a new category introduced in 2014, specifically for “unaltered 2008 and newer production vehicles” running slower than 10.0 seconds and under 135 mph in the quarter mile. Headers, a chip replacement or even a cold air kit disqualifies the vehicle from this category. (Aftermarket wheels/tires are permitted, but must be DOT tires – no slicks.) This category requires current driver’s license, registration, proof-of-insurance and valid license plate. See www.nhra.com or www.nhraracer.com – or one of our Tech Inspectors for more information.
