Default 1990 windshield question

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, couldn't find a reason/answer. On my (and others I have seen) the windshield on the '90 ZR-1 has a small squarish block area in the lower windshield in front of the driver down by the hood that is not tinted? What is the reason for this? Thanks for helping.

ZR-1 windshields have metallic solar reflective film laminated between outer and inner layer of the windshield which interferes with radar detector operation. Cutout is film-free allowing detectors (or garage door openers) to function properly.

Excellent answer. Thanks for the help and ending my confusion. Couldn't for the life of me think of a reason, and now knowing it, makes perfect sense.
