oil filter
i am fixin to change oil for the first time. i have 3 gallons of amsoil 10w40 on hand, i got a wix oil filter #51324 does anyone know if this is the right wix?
also about the drain plug..looks like its in left rear of oil pan, just inboard of a catalytic converter that is gonna be real hot? i was "practicing" and found that a 9/16 socket with two extensions will reach..but the sucker is super tight,,i halfheartedly tried to loosen and no budge. should this have been torqued real tight? lastly..my service manual shows a gasket or washer and an "insert"..is this a soft gasket or a copper washer? is the insert a helicoil or bushing that aint supposed to come out? |

Correct filter. Gasket is metal with a black viton insert - torque to about 20 #-ft. If it can't be broken loose, pump the oil out. The plug should not be that tight - someone probably did not use the correct gasket and had to torque to yield to stop the leak.
If you can't find the correct gasket, head to NAPA and find a nylon washer the right size. "fixin" ... are you from Texas?

Jerry at Jerrys gaskets would have the correct gasket for the oil plug.

i will try a nice tightfitting box wrench..socket seemed to fit right but theres some wobble in two extensions..i may have to get 3 more inches by driving onto 4 blocks..stacks of 4 pieces of 3/4 plywood maybe a foot n a half wide and two feet long..

im gonna make some plywood stacks to drive up on maybe 3" high, for just the drivers side to see if i cant get in there and crack the plug loose..if not, the pump looks like a good idea, might actually get more oil than draining which leaves 1/4" or more in the pan?
