Re: Catch can first impressions !!! Plus some gopro footage (first video :) )
If your not running a catch can on your LT5, you should. Read my link below on my custom catch cans.

Re: Catch can first impressions !!! Plus some gopro footage (first video :) )
Thanks. Interesting mod.
Approximately how often do they need to be emptied? Is that a pain? If the catch can gets full and you do not drain it, is there anything to prevent pure oil from leaving the catch can and into the intake? Do you have anything to alert you to when they need to be emptied?

2) Not that I can think of. Some may have a safety valve or something but not the one I use. 3) No I usually check mine every couple of months or so. Mine is mounted in the engine bay and today I just got some 3/8" braided line to relocate the catch can to the bottom of the car. Similar to Tony's set up. I will be able to reach under and unscrew the bottom and drain without a problem. My catch can is a basic unit off e-bay...about $20 or something Here it is: http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNIVERSAL-HI...item5d54b82033 I got rid of the John Guest fitting (clear tube or what ever its called) and just sealed it up. These should have come with the car from the factory. Here is mine after maybe 1000 miles of driving at most. http://www.zr1.net/forum/showthread.php?t=22567 Video is on page 3.

Yes less "soot" or oil residue etc there and much less oil consumption. My car is dirty and needs to be washed...its been dirty since pizza night!

Re: Catch can first impressions !!! Plus some gopro footage (first video :) )
I agree that I think this is a MUST mod on LT5s. for $100 your preventing a LOT of oil getting sucked into the plenum. I don't see any downside to that. easily reversible. W
With how much oil I found in my can in such little time.. Im going to split the line running from the pcv into 2 lines into 2 cans. I had planned to run 3 catch cans but it was mentioned someone found the cam covers weren't a source of significant oil vapor and I also couldn't figure out a perfect way to hide all the lines to and from the covers to cans. |
