Default 1996 LT4 Gauge Cluster in 1991 ZR-1

Can I install a OBD2 1996 cluster from a LT4 with 8k tach in my 1991 OBD1 ZR-1?

My tach is way off... I shift when the needle is near the speedometer display... and i like the temp etc gagues better in the newer cars. Found one for 250$, thanks!

The complication of changing the mileage is too much work. You can repair your own tach circuit cheaply. see the diy posts on the subject- there's a resistor that gets hot and the resistance changes.

You're much better off correcting the issue with your '91 cluster. There is a different display scheme for the LCD that creates issues. I don't recall the particular difference but it's certainly more desirable to repair what you've got. There is also I believe a possible change in the warning lights in the cluster.

I believe that people have changed the LCD from cluster to cluster to accommodate a swap but it's usually been done to add an 8K tach to what was a 6K cluster car.

If you checked the owners manual of let's say a '95 and compared the display and lamp feature of the cluster to yours then it might be easier to determine if you want the aggravation.

I'd fix yours.

I concur....there are variations between clusters by year.

You can fix your own as Paul suggests Tachometer Calibration TIPS

Paul describes in detail how to remove the Cluster in the link above which actually only takes a few minutes.

or Marc Haibeck can fix your cluster
