Question Hey Guys, Exhaust question PT2 ?3 lost count

Its been a while , But I'm slowly making a come back !! Getting on my feet and slowly getting parts for the Z..
I have read that sometimes the headers are needing to be dimpled or wedges to raise the engine to clear the steering box etc..
My question is , if this is a norm could someone show a picture of where on a header it needs to be dimpled and how much ?
Does anyone wrap the header in that area or make some sort of heat shield to keep some heat away from the steering box ? Is it needed ?
I'll be taking my headers down soon to get ceramic coated and if work lets me I'll try and install this year..
Well its feels good to be back asking all the dumb questions I can come up with , I'll be working like crazy in the next few weeks but will try to stick around some. As always Thanks .

On the LT5 (in a c4) the only real issue is the dipstick tube bracket installation. If you want to use the stock long fasteners there, you might have to slightly dent a bit of clearance, or just use a different fastener. Also depends on your brand of header, but rest assured that you have enough room around the primary tubes.

HUH ok , cool .. I must have been understanding wrong .. I was thinking they wedge the engine to gain some clearance . But cool .. I'm using OBX headers . Thanks

On the OBX, you'll almost certainly need to dimple the #1 tube, because it will rub on the steering linkage. Best to test-fit the headers and dimple it before ceramic coating if possible. Make sure you have plenty of clearance; mine had to be re-adjusted after some drive time. Also, some guys choose to try to shim the motor mounts instead of dimpling the header. It's not always possible to shim it enough to keep it from rubbing the steering linkage (without dimpling) and even if you can keep it from rubbing, you're raising the center of gravity slightly by shimming. Given how heavy the LT-5 is, lifting it - even slightly - can make a difference.

I think someone here who put in OBX hardware said that they had clearance issue #1.

I think Chris also just put some in - said nothing about clearance, that I remember.

Do the mounts compress with time??? If so, would that GIVE, or TAKE clearance??? (NO ONE HERE KNOWS THAT ANSWER)

I got lucky, WITH wrap - still had about 7/32 - 1/4"...
