will an autoxray scanner help in fixing a service suspension light? I detailed my car last week and after I drove it around the block the service suspension light lit up. I know if you started the car 3 times and did not move it will also light up but I drove it around the block and it came back on. I did not do any driving until after I detailed it. I was using mild simple green by hand and also applying a firewall and black dressing on parts of the engine bay. Nothing on the engine or plenum. this car has never thrown a code before. I read hib halversons article on the active suspension and it does not look too complicated. my two front shocks have been rebuilt by bilstein less than 1 year ago no issues. Should I get an autoxray code scanner? any thoughts.

On another note, I spoke to a tech rep this past winter, and from what he told me, AutoXray is soon to be no more. The dude didn't seem too "with it" or anxious to help me. So, I hope he was as FOS as his answers (or lack thereof) were when I last spoke with them. Good luck. Do let us know if yo learn anything. P.

SRC
Jumper plugs A-C on the ALDL port, and your SRC light will flash F-E-D-C-B-A G-H-J-K-L-M 12 = Start of sequence 13 = Left rear time out 14 = Right Front time out 21 = Left Front time out 22 = Right Rear time out 31 = Left Front out of position 32 = Right Front out of position 33 = Left Rear out of position 34 = Right Rear out of position 41 = Selective ride control switch short to voltage 42 = Selective ride control switch open contacts You can have a code 42 if you leave the switch in between indented positions 43 = selective ride control switch circuit open. 23 = If you start the car more than 3 times and do not move the car this code will set. Drive 3-6 feet and the light will go out

Re: src
Did you move the Spark Plug Wires out of place?
Mis-routed wires can emit EMI - same as a nuke, and Solid State Sensors + nukes = poor playmates.

Re: src
Before doing anything else I'd go for another longer drive.

Re: src
The SRC diagnostic is strictly flashing bulb counts- even the Tech1 scanner just ground the appropriate pin in the ALDL so you can observe the flashing indicator in the DIC panel.

I ran into a similar issue last year. I think that if the MALF is set several times without being reset, it will stay on indicating a fault in history. Pull the BATT. Then take it for a drive and see if the fault comes back.

Re: src
thanks to all of you. You guys are awesome with advice and intellect. I did call autoxray and the device does not read suspension codes. I will try the battery disconnect along with driving it more. I will also try grounding the appropriate pins and watch indicators. I am glad I am a member of this very special site. Thanks again.

Re: src
well here is the whole story about the src light coming on. This whole thing was caused by a bad velocity speed sensor (vss). It is located on the drivers side of the transmission. the part has been obsolete for over 10 years for the 1990 zr1 so getting one was very difficult. I managed to buy two of them. If your vss goes out, it will throw the src suspension lights on after 3 starts... if you drive a little you will get an engine service light and you will see that your secondaries have been killed also. My car sounded good but it felt a little down on horsepower and the idle quality was a bit rougher.
If the vss is not working, the car thinks it is not moving and the ecm gets confused when you are stepping on the gas but the car thinks its not moving.. The ecm will not throw the appropriate timing or gas so the car has a rougher idle and the idle down is impossible. I thought it might be my newly rebuilt gauge cluster but when I replaced the vss sensor today the lights reset themselves and the secondaries started to work again. What a difference!! It feels like it did when I bought it. The sensor was not to difficult to remove but it was very well stuck. It took a while but it came out. It leaked very little oil. I think the transmission was over filled anyway when we checked the fluid on the transmission. Car feels great and putting up some good power numbers. ed ramos #3028 |
