Default PF970C AC Delco Oil filter

I have a black Delco PF970C on my 92 and went to the local Chevy dealer to purchase a new oil filter. First they gave me a PF9 which they said was right but it was shorter than the PF970C on the car. Now they gave me a blue PF970C but it is still short, about a half inch shorter than the black PF970C on one the car. The black is about 4" and the new blue one is about 3.5". Photos attached.

Is this correct? Both are ACDelco and both have PF970C on them?

Yes the PF970C in blue is the replacement for the black. Cost less to make it smaller sells for more, sign of the times.

The filter thing is a big running debate for these cars. It seems like it changes which is the best as far as the anti drain valve from year to year. As I recall, Mr. Haibeck said the current one to go with is the current blue PF970C.

I got a handful from a guy on ebay fairly inexpensive a few months ago. I think I ordered 3 figuring that'd last a while, but now it looks like I'll have a second Z to maintain.

Probably not going to be what you want to hear, but I've read that the black Delco ones don't have good check valves.

I confirmed this info with Mr. Haibeck on the phone....
