Rear hatch weatherstripping
Anyone have any suggestions on finding replacement hatch weather stripping GM part # 09768068.
Coming up empty from the General, and even GM parts direct is out.

Re: Rear hatch weatherstripping
I'm going to be in the market in a matter of days now too. I'm looking at Willcox (CF forum sponsor) and some guidance/suggestions from anyone here that has some input on weather stripping in general.
I'll keep ya posted. U do the same! P.

Re: Rear hatch weatherstripping
I did it once a few years ago with a piece from Mike's (or Eckler's; don't remember). It was before Gore invented the web, so I didn't photo-doc it to the forum boards...
THought it was a straightforward job. Cleanup of old adhesive was a bear. And the new rubber is short - I think that's why 2 vettes that I've bought had it cut in the corners. It will swell substantially with a LIBERAL wipedown of Trans-X on a cloth rag. With the right solvent for old adhesive cleanup (sorry - can't remember that either), and if the assembler used enough of it, it will take off the top film, and leave plenty fresh OEM adhesive exposed to re-install... Don't touch it then - it's STICKY stuff. I unbolted one strut, got behind it, re-bolted, then got it behind the other strut.

If GM doesn't have any, will they be making more? Will GM still support the C4 for weatherstripping? |

From my point that would be no big deal IMHO the original GM hatch seal was designed to fail. Always at the corners. At least Wilcox tries to address this issue with corner reinforcement.

Re: Rear hatch weatherstripping
Looks like the tech's turbo coffee spooled up @ about 3:38
MAMO had the part right about some adhesive remaining, if you cleanup with alcohol-based solvent. Couldn't remember what solvent I had used... First however, maybe clean the dusty jam with soap and water sponge - this won't solve the old adhesive yet. Otherwise, the dusty jam and debris will wipe INTO the fresh exposed adhesive, as it solves with the alcohol wipedown next. And you can cut the rubbing alcohol to about 2:1 alcohol / water. This is all the strength needed to solve the top layer of old adhesive, and leave fresh adhesive, like MAMO was showing... And maybe instead of silicone GREASE, use silicone spray (Armor-ALL, or similar, with silicone). I think even if you wipedown the grease to a fine film, it still holds new corner jam... My .02 Of course, like backsides and how you wipe them (front-to-rear, rear-to-front, sideways, spin, blot, swirlie, paperless etc.), everybody's got one, and does it different
