I think I'm going to do an interior like that for my Z!

I actually did confront somebody once, well it wasn't much of a confrontation as much as a question and a major let down.A few years ago I was driving someplace and I pull up to a light and this really nice Metallic Brown 89 Coupe was next to me.I lean my head out the window and tell the nice lady driving it how nice it was and asked if it was in fact a ZR-1,she says why yes it is.I kindly told it wasnt and she got a blank look on her face, dont think she really knew what ZR-1 was in the first place.

Nice try, but I like the commemorative paint job on the ZR-1 as well as on the lesser Grand Sport. I would bet it is a higher quality paint job on that ZR-1, thank the crap blue over spray on the stock white Corvette they gave to the GS's.

Must be one of those very rare 1 of 1 GS ZR-1s

Franke,
Yes, the shop that does heavy work for me when I had new tires put on it (they did work on my 76 before that when I was bringing it up to speed) and the road test was not done by the mechanic or the counterman but by the owner, Junior, who raced in his past and he confirmed when I picked it up that it was indeed "fast." Everybody in that shop has raced ovals or drag strip and run multiple cars so speak "speed."

I still marvel at the size of the front and rear tires on the Z even compared to the non factory 255's on the 76 which make it corner rather well for its day. Nothing like the Z though..just a whole serious amount of difference. I should probably sell the 76 but can't bring myself to since I love how it looks as I get in the Z and go for a ride.

Enjoy the 76 some more and by the way, I've been watching the auctions and that generation of corvettes seem to be rising in price slowly. So there could be an additional benefit down the road so to speak. I do like their body style too. When I bought the Z 6 years ago I could have picked a mid 70's up pretty cheap at the same dealer but I also knew what the ZR-1 was and never thought I would be able to own one. This brotherhood of Z owners are a great group of dedicated enthusiasts who want to help in times of need. They really deserve recognition for that.

No Vette driving here this weekend as Police Watch is out in full force. The 76 is a piece of sculpture just sitting and it is fun to drive on twisty roads. Right now I have not driven it long enough that the fuel is out of the carb and lines so will take another while I crank and give it the spray in the carb until I get it filled up in the lines again and then I'll drive it every couple weeks. It is "cruder" to drive than the Z by a lot in terms of how things work, clutch is almost brutal comparitively and only four gears but it sure as heck goes around corners on the road like fire. Originally 180 hp I believe and I now have it up to around 220 hp without porting, relieving, cams, etc and it does fly on the road though does not have the punch of modern big engines. I still love it and it costs me a couple hundred a year is all to keep it so it stays.
