Look for a 4 digit, ie. 1912, 19th week, 2012 man date

Oh, believe me, I'm not meaning to sound like I'm dissing them. They are fabulous in summer temps (as a street tire), and I credit their ability to hold most of their grip on wet pavement to saving my bacon once. I agree. They're a super summer wet/dry performance street tire.

The GS-D3 Goodyear tire may only rate a B+ in dry traction, but it has a couple of things going for it.
1) Wet traction
2) It doesn't get instantly dangerous when the tread is half worn.

it is a little easier to spin cold once you are on the last 30% of the tread, but not nearly as much as some other tires i have owned. Unfortunately these tires in the 315 size are pushing $400 each.

I will do a short write up in a few days when I think I am sure we have full recovery but yes, lots of damage when it broke loose.

I managed to minimize the damage when my skid control training kicked in, but not before hitting the curb and nearly breaking the right rear sawblade in half and dislodging the gas metering assembly in the tank. Two rear spindles were bent and the right wheel bearing was toast.

The hardest of the fix was finding a replacement 11" machined-faced sawblade. Thanks to Marc Haibeck's tip and a great forum member (who does not want to be indentified for fear of being labeled as a "wheel ho") I was able to pick up four brand new, never-mounted machined sawblades - many, many thanks, guys!

Allen at Allen Stainless Steel Exhaust in Indiana was able to supply original spindles with rubber bushings and the GM wheel bearing - thanks for the lead, Marc, and for the quality parts and service, Allan!

I am still playing with the alignment to try and reach perfection, but it is pretty much there. I'll keep you posted once I reach nirvana - hopefully in the next few days.

Lesson learned - drive it like an old lady if you have F1s and it's less than 40F!

You have to be careful with any "summer tire" on cold days. This happened locally, to a Z06 on a below 50*F day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlsPNlGsTJU
I believe the driver made it out, but was critical condition (never heard about the follow up).
